    Dear Parents,

    2/7 is Chinese New Year Day. On behalf of BCS, we would like to wish all our kids, teachers, volunteer parents and all parent members health, happiness and prosperity. May the GOLDEN year of the RAT brings wonderful things to all of you! We will have a Chinese New Year celebration at the Morrill campus from 10:00am to 11:00am. Please check the "Upcoming Events " on our web page for activities (www.bcs-usa.org) and the "Community News" for New Year activities in the Bay Area. Please forward the weekly E-news to your class parents.

    **Special Events** reminder

    1. 2/9 Piedmont library 9:30 to 10:30am: Credit Recognition seminar at Piedmont. All upper class parents whose kids are interested in credit recognition need to attend. More information could be viewed from our web site on the left column (www.bcs-usa.org/CreditRecognition)
    2. 2/9 Morrill Library 9am to 10am: Special Mandarin (SM) class information seminar (Questions $ Answers). This seminar is for families who speak very little or no Chinese at home that enroll kids in Mandarin classes. MP, MK and M1 parents are encouraged to attend since we will be offering SM1, SM2 and SM3 next year.
    3. 2/9: 9:30am all campus office: Registration Package meeting for returning students. Parents rep for each class please come to the office for a brief meeting with Registration personnel for 2008-2009 pre-registration information.
    4. 2/9: 10am to 11am Morrill outside MPR(shine) or in MPR (rain): Chinese New Year Celebration and Academic Competition award ceremony.

    News:

      The Academic competition team lead by teacher Lily Liu would like to thank:

    1. all the parents and teachers for encouraging and coaching our kids to participate in this year's contest.
    2. all our dedicated teachers for their devotion and love for our kids to come up with tests and being judges.
    3. all our volunteer team members for running the contest
    4. all our volunteer parents from M7A, M7B, M7C, M8A, M8B, C8B, C9, M9A, M10A, M10B and C10 to come to help us on 1/12 and 1/26.

    We had a total of 527students and 1063 entries for 17 different categories. Results will be published in this week's newsletter and shortly on our web.

    Spring Performance News:

    1. The Spring Performance Team is gearing up the preparation for the 4/13 Spring Performance. They are ready to accept applications for participating in the SP program. We also encourage parents and students to volunteer for the MC positions. One adult and TWO students are needed. There is also a SP Poster Contest for each campus. 1st prize is $75, 2nd prize is $25, 3rd prize certificate. Details please check on our BCS web site at www.bcs-usa.org
    2. Earlier in the year, the Morrill campus is the designated helper group and each class in Morrill is required to provide 2 parent helpers for this event, either on Saturday afternoon on 4/12 or Sunday 4/13. For those Morrill classes which have not provided the helpers, please email your parent helpers' name and contact info to bcs_board@yahoo.com. There will be a SP working session meeting on 4/12 at Morrill for job assignments.

    News:

    It is time for us to enlist parent volunteers to serve BCS board for next year. Please let us know which area(s) that you can help: administration, curriculum, etc to the BCS email at bcs_board@yahoo.com.

    Also we are recruiting teachers from our parent members. The Association of Northern California Chinese School (ANCCS) will offer teacher training class this summer. All parents that are interested in becoming BCS teachers (Cantonese, Mandarin, and special Mandarin), please forward your interest/questions to BCS email at bcs_board@yahoo.com.
