Soccer Basics
The field of play: The field of play must be rectangular. With various marking for Goal Line, Touch Line,Goal Area, Penalty Area, Penalty Mark, Penalty Arc, Corner Arc, Centre Mark, Centre Circle, and Halfway Line. Not all games we play will have those marked on our field but we should know the rules for those marks.
Coin Toss: A coin toss shall be made before the start of the game by the referee between the two team captains. Usually, the guest team call head/tail when referee flip the coin. The winner of the coin toss can pick either the goal or to do the kick-off.
Kick-Off: At the kick off all players must be on their own side of half. All players opposing the kick off shall be at least 10 yards from the ball (outside of Centre Circle) until it is kicked. The ball may only be kicked forward from the Centre mark. If the player who kicked the ball touches the ball a second time before any other player, a free kick shall be awarded to the opposing team.
Goal Kick: If attacking team kick the ball outside through the opponent's Goal line, the defending team is award a Goal Kick. The procedure is described as below:
the ball is kicked within the goal area by a player of the defending team
opponents remain outside the penalty area until the ball is in play
the kicker does not play the ball a second time until it has touched another player
the ball is in play when it is kicked directly beyond the penalty area
Corner Kick: If defending team kick the ball outside through their own Goal line, the attacking team is award a Corner Kick. The procedure is described as below:
the ball is placed inside the corner arc at the nearest corner flagpost
opponents remain at least 10 yards from the ball until it is in play
the ball is kicked by a player of the attacking team
the kicker does not play the ball a second time until it has touched another player
Throw In: If any player kick the ball outside through the touch line, the opposing team is award a Throw-in. At the moment of delivering the ball, the thrower:
faces the field of play
has part of each foot either on the touch line or on the ground outside the touch line
uses both hands to delivers the ball from behind and over his head
The thrower may not touch the ball again until it has touched another player and throw in cannot score a goal.
